Hands-On Mission Opportunities
Second Presbyterian is involved in many mission activites throughtout the year.
Here are some of the variety of organizations and activities we support regularly.
Mission Trips - At Second Pres we believe in breaking a sweat for God through hands-on mission work. Much of this work is done locally, but some is conducted out of our immediate area. Trips for adults and older youth in past years have been taken to Honduras, the Dakotas, and North Carolina. The Youth Group leads its own mission trip experiences, and adults are often welcome as advisors, chaperones, and drivers. If you would like to learn about upcoming opportunities, please contact Pastor Jeff or Pastor Jennifer.
Camp Krislund - Each year we send a group of great kids and adults to Camp Krislund, near State College, Pa. This Presbyterian camping experience is a high-point of many people’s summers (and their spiritual journeys!). Kids from Kindergarten through Senior High participate in the high-energy, high-adventure, Christ-centered programming while adults volunteer in various parts of the camp. Kids can come without their parents; parents can come without kids; in short, Krislund week is for the whole church family. Our week this year is July 11 to 17, 2010. For more information contact any staff member or see Krislund’s website at www.krislund.org.
Habitat for Humanity - Habitat is a faith-based organization that builds simple, decent homes in partnership with people in need. Second Pres is a mission partner with Cumberland Valley Habitat for Humanity (CVHH) and organizes several Habitat workdays throughout the year. People of all skill levels, both men and women, can get involved in construction, administration, fundraising, or other vital areas. For more information on CVHH, visit www.CumberlandValleyHFH.org.
Second Helpers - The Second Helpers is a ministry of Second Pres whch creates quilts and other comforting items for survivors of domestic abuse and other people in need. If you can sew or knit or if you have fabric or yarn to donate, consider becoming part of this small group mission project. Second Helpers meets monthly.
Prayer Shawl Ministry - Anyone interested in knitting or crocheting prayer shawls is invited to join this group. Prayer shawls are given to members/friends of the church to provide a constant reminder of the care and concern of the congregation. This group meets at the church to exchange ideas. Knitting and crocheting is done at home.
Mission House - This house at 1003 Rockledge Drive is a home for missionaries who are in the United States for sabbatical or leave. Click here for more information.

Alcoholics Anonymous – An AA group meets every Saturday. This 12-step group is open to anyone seeking help in recovering from addiction to alcohol. For a listing of other AA meetings and more information about this organization, please visit: www.AA.org.
Carlisle Cares - Carlisle Cares, named for Combined Area Resources for Emergency Shelter, is a non-profit organization supported by Second Presbyterian Church. The purpose of the organization is to provide shelter when no other shelter can be found. We will provide shelter to single men and women, as well as families. When providing shelter is not possible with the CARES program, we will utilize every resource known to us to help each person. Click here to visit their web site to learn more about this group.
