The “Second” Family would be privileged to welcome you. You don’t have to be a member to be an active part of our family--just jump right in. People from all Christian backgrounds--and from none at all--have made our congregation their church family.

Retired? Many people choose to retire in the Carlisle area, and many of those retirees are active and appreciated members of the Second Family. Retirees make up about half of our congregation, and over 10% of our active members are over 80 years old!
Whether you are newly retired or you are approaching your 100th birthday, there’s a place for you in the Second Family. We offer several ministries led by Seniors and designed especially for Seniors, including XYZers, Brown Baggers, and the Chair Exercise Group. Of course our Seniors are also active in many of our intergenerational ministries, especially our choirs and ensembles , adult education, small groups , and service with our mission partners . Several of our Seniors also volunteer in the church office or with our ministries to children and youth.
Most of our retired members live independently in their own homes in Carlisle and its surrounding communities. We also have strong representation in the independent living and assisted living sections of each of these local senior living facilities:

Our Deacons (lay caregivers) reach out to homebound members regularly, bringing home communion once a year, providing CD copies of our worship services, and offering meals, medical equipment, and transportation on a temporary emergency basis.
Stude
nts and faculty at the U.S. Army War College and Active Duty service members assigned to Carlisle Barracks find that being part of the Second Family helps them keep in touch with civilian life and that it is a helpful complement to life on post. Pastor Jeff is an alumnus of the National Security Seminar at the War College, and he is especially sensitive to the needs of military families. Both pastors offer confidential short-term counseling and support without charge to anyone who requests it. Our congregation is full of veterans and their families, many of whom are graduates of the War College and chose to return to the Carlisle area in retirement. Second Pres is a place where soldiers can take off their leadership mantle and simply be ministered to. Our goal is to serve you and your family in whatever ways we can.

l students at Dickinson College and the Dickinson School of Law have enjoyed being part of a community that includes everyone from newborns to people old enough to be their grandparents. We’d love to welcome you to worship or as an advisor or teacher in one of our ministries for children and youth. If you are an aspiring musician or vocalist, we’d love to have you share your talents in our dynamic music ministry. Several members of the congregation are alumni/ae and/or faculty of these schools, and we feel blessed that we are building strong ties with these outstanding institutions.
